Section: Unix

Added: Sun, Jan 11th 1998 23:33 PDT (10 years, 4 months ago) Updated: Wed, Aug 25th 2004 03:34 PDT (3 years, 8 months ago)

About:
Enlightenment is a themeable, fast, flexible, and powerful window manager that is designed to be as configurable as possible in both look and feel. In addition, Enlightenment provides an applet API that provides functionality somewhere between the GNOME applet system and Dock Apps from Afterstep/WindowMaker. The current design aim is for Enlightenment to become a desktop shell.

[»] recompile it!
by smn - Apr 11th 2000 10:01:54

Get the source and recompile! Recompile the libs and dependencies and everything else you can. It only makes Enlightenment better!

[»] Good job guys !
by Urivan Saaib - Dec 13th 1999 07:49:22

This is the only one WM that i'm using besides fvwm2 with theme support. Those two, for me, the lightest window managers i ever used (and that didn't freezes my 486 laptop ! ;-) )

btw, aalib ROCKS ! 8-)

[»] Wow, come so far since I last used it.
by Karina - Nov 20th 1999 18:56:53

Had written E off as a slow resource hog a while back (dr 0.14.4 I think.) but lately I started becoming very annoyed with windowmaker so I thought I'd download 0.16.2 and have a look. WOW!!! this thing is quick now and it's such a beautiful wm to work in, everything can be set to work just how I like with minimal effort. SWEEEEEET!!!! :)

by Shaman - Oct 28th 1999 08:38:00

For fixing the scripts for Solaris. It was a pain hacking the makefiles by hand.

[»] Quantitative please...
by dreddnott - Aug 17th 1999 16:31:42

How many libraries would I have to d/l installing it onto a fresh RedHat Linux 6.0 box? Also, I have a 400MHz K6-2, 96MB RAM and the Voodoo Banshee server so I was also wondering what's the best theme if memory hogging is no object...?

[»] This thing ROCKS!
by CaZCaDE - Apr 28th 1999 05:44:22

Oh yes.. Enlightenment + GNOME is decidedly the best GUI I ever have tried.. I recommend this! But as the most of us know, it's a memory sucker.. I have 64 MBs but GNOMEs RAM indicator applet is almost allways on maximum load.. Well, nothing more negative to say! =)

[»] The best wm ever!
by Ola Lundqvist - Apr 19th 1999 08:38:53

I must say that raster and mandrake have done an excelent window manager. Cool! And the thing I like most is that it is fully GNOME compiliant. It does not use as much memory anymore, almost better than windowmaker. There is also an e-conf util, which have the same good look. Nice work! I use it with GNOME (which will give you the possibility to minimize ;)

I still love the WM, but how come there aren't any new developments? Has Enlightenment died? Regards, jake@plutoid.com
