[»] crashing?
by Cresso - Feb 2nd 2005 12:23:46

I tried to run this with apache2 & php5 on winxp, configured everything properly added an imap server.... but apache crashed when I pressed the 'Folders' icon. And it kept on crashing on every horde framework page until session was lost. Further it seems to work fine though. I also think it's alot of stuff if you're just looking for webmail only.

    by Cresso - Feb 11th 2005 04:56:18

I found out that the Zend optimiser I had installed was causing the crashes in combination with the horde framework (php5 & apache2). After I uninstalled it, it ran fine!

[»] My 2 cents
by Thomas - Jan 5th 2005 12:43:33

IMP is by far the best webmail client, but - and I installed all versions till v3 - the new version is really hard to install. Why isn't it possible to only require default libs and compiliation of Apache/php as eg. Fedora delivers from CD ?
Or at least a tutorial/manual for adaption of eg. Fedora 2/3 without recompiling nearly the whole distribution (okay, nearly .-) would be fine. At this point the sw may be great, but if only few people can install it or that know-how isn't distributed then the install base is smaller then it should be.

Just my 2 cents.

We target a lot of diverse platforms, so we can't really consider what a single distribution installs by default. Of course some of the features that require certain PHP extensions could be implemented in pure PHP code, but this would mean a huge performance hit and reinventing the wheel.

The page is there; our upstream provider had some routing issues.

[»] LDAP Documentation
by Rev. Adam Tauno Williams - Jul 1st 2002 10:00:21

I have composed (and am maintaining) a fairly extensive presentation on LDAP, OpenLDAP, and integration with various services. ldapv3.pdf hosted by the Kalamazoo Linux Users Group. (Kalamazoo, Mi. USA) Includes a section on Turba, the contact manager for IMP.

[»] Features
by Tom - Aug 20th 2001 15:12:08

Nice and easy to use. I just wish it wouldword wrap the lines at the screen edge. I get every paragraph as one long line of text. Not easy to read.

[»] The easiest way to install IMP
by nobody - Jul 20th 2001 23:37:33

The easiest way to install IMP is to install e-smith.
It gives you Apache/PHP/MySQL IMP, SAMBA plus many more features.
It can all be controlled by a web interface.
It is VERY simple to install.
It's Linux and it's free!

http://e-smith.org
I don't work for them, I'm just a happy user!

[»] Installation from tarballs
by Thomas Willert - Jan 18th 2001 04:26:32

After fiddling around with the installation, I wrote a small document to allow me to remember my steps, the next time I have to install IMP. I hope others, who also have had problems with this installation, can benefit from it.

You can find it at http://willert.dk/geek/imp-install.html

Have fun!

[»] PHPLIB
by Anil Madhavapeddy - Aug 21st 2000 19:32:46

Yes, 2.2 does need PHPLIB. 2.3, the new development branch, is PHP4 only and makes use of native PHP4 sessions, and has _no_ need for PHPLIB at all. It is already pretty stable; check it out of CVS at http://horde.org/cvs

[»] Wonderful program
by Michael Brown - Jun 23rd 2000 12:32:10

I'm very impressed with IMP. I've been looking for an HTTP MUA for about a week and IMP is by far the best. Installation was fairly easy, and the interface is great with awesome functionality.
Good job, people!

[»] Installing IMP with RPMs
by Brent J. Nordquist - Jun 19th 2000 10:12:54

We've updated the RPMs for IMP 2.2.x and we're working to improve the installation process for those who prefer to install using only RPMs.

If you haven't tried installing IMP (and its prerequisites) with RPMs lately, you should try the new ones; we'd greatly appreciate any feedback. I've requested a "redhat packages" link for this freshmeat entry; here is where they can be found:

ftp://ftp.horde.org/pub/RPMS/ (in the noarch subdirectory)

The RPMS worked exzellent for me. (Had this time no luck with the tar.gz - ball). Fast, easy, and go. Great work, thanks - Thomas

[»] IMP User Interface/Themes
by Tobias Schenk - Mar 23rd 2000 15:02:44

First of all thanks for creating the IMP. I think it's quite a useful and powerful tool in comparison to some other webmailers around.

However, the user interface doesn't look good IMHO. Also, support of themes would be great! An outstanding (commercial) web mailer interface was created at http://freemail.web.de

You'll see it once you are signed up (for free). BTW, I'm not related to them...

[»] IMP - Simple to install and a great tool
by XV - Oct 9th 1999 17:25:03

Yes, it's nice and easy. I've tried to install it with redhat rpm's (together with mysql, php apache and imap) and I just couldn't. It took me 3 days and then I gave up. When I decided to give the tar balls a try, it jusk took me some hours and some INSTALL and README files to get the job done.

[»] Setup not too hard, but hard on browsers.
by abo - Sep 19th 1999 22:27:22

I've just managed to get it up and running by using some un-official beta deb's. In the end the hardest part was the deb's post-install script was a bit broken, and I had to RTFM and finalize the setup manually. I have a feeling it would have been even easier to set up if I'd done it by hand and hadn't used the slightly broken debs.

It's as full featured as you can get...I can't imagine what else could be added to make it better. My only concern is that it is perhaps over-featured, and relies heavily on javascript and frames. Also the mysql/postgres contacts database is neat but hard for newbies to import/export from other mail clients.

[»] Agreed - it should be easier
by Chris Horry - Sep 6th 1999 05:54:41

I'm sure IMP is pretty simple if you have the time and patience to go through the documentation. I'm testing different web->mail apps and to be honest, I don't :-) It looks like a really cool program but developers! - you really need to make it a lot better if you want people to use it. I'll keep an eye out for later releases and see how it develops

IMP more than simple - simplest program you cannot find. If you have a complexity in studying and program use read the documentation.

[»] hard to install ?!
by ZipPer2 - Jul 5th 1999 19:05:52

about the previous comment:

I would like to make clear that horde or imp isn't hard to install, in fact, I installed it in minutes. and I have only been into unix for about 1 year now.

If you aren't able to install apache or php then the issue wouldn't be IMP, don't you think?

I know that if you want to install IMP and you have none of the requiered applications installed then it could take some time to get everything working. but it's not the point I think.

How would you make IMP easiest to install? making apache & php easier to install as well, right?

in 4 words : not an IMP issue

hope you guys give it a try! besides if you get php working you could install more php based applications like phorum or others in a matter of seconds

best regards
