So, who's in the mood for grey?
by Marcus - Sep 19th 2003 17:23:45
As a SlashDot reader, I just had to look at this theme.
There's not much to be said about the background. It's
grey, and it has an "In Soviet Russia" joke and a
Russian hammer-and-sickle design in the corner.
Okay, fine, I get the joke.
Now, I initially assumed that there would be a "Soviet
Russia" joke, and that this joke would represent 99% of
the effort which was put into the theme. In at least one
sense, this may be correct. The joke and design were
added to the background cleanly -- no fringe, no
ugliness.
The rest of the theme seems to be simple -- just grey
and white diagonal gradients. Those gradients actually
look pretty good, though. Almost exactly like
SteelBlueSilk without the blue (perhaps there's a
reason for this? :)
The menu has a similar gradient. It looks okay, though
the white text near the bottom right corner (which is
also white) gets a bit hard to read. I do like the choice
of fonts. Thank you for choosing a decent sized default
font rather than the itty-bitty fonts which most themes
seem to use (10 point? smaller?) Now if you would
only increase the size of the default titlebar font...
Frankly, I don't like grey, and this theme has a lot of it.
If you're looking for a "steely" theme, though, this one
pretty much does the job. It looks clean, it has a nice
medium contrast level which is easy on the eyes, and
the default fonts are okay. Plus it uses small image
files (lots of one color -- guess which one?) It's actually
a fairly well put-together theme. Too bad it's so dang
_grey_.
